Last Thursday was the last day of school. The children didn't go, which bothers conformist educationally oriented me. However, the last week of school was far from educationally rich: Monday was Memorial Day vacation, Tuesday was a full day - Boo watched Charlotte's Web in the morning and had an awards ceremony in the afternoon, Wednesday was a half day (11.30 release). James graduated kindergarten and Chloe watched Finding Nemo. The teachers told us that on Thursday (also 11.30 release) we could just come in and get report cards -the children didn't have to stay. Hmmmm?
The whole end of the term was overshadowed by the "reassignment" of our beloved principal, Gwen Massey. She has worked terribly hard to turn the test scores around - but also tried to enrich the curriculum and encourage the teachers to try new ways of teaching. She knew every student by name and was frequently present at car drop of and pick up ... I will miss her smiling face.
