Last night we went to the annual post thanksgiving Christmas tree lighting. At least a couple of hundred people gathered on the square to hear local children perform carols and Christmas songs, eat home-made cookies (the kids and I made Ghiradelli choc chip cookies), stand around braziers, honor Doc Hellams (50 years of practice in Pendleton), and countdown to the actual lighting. We didn't do as much visiting as other years, but it was still enjoyable. Santa came to visit at the end of the program. While Chloe and I were looking for them, James had dragged Neil into the line to talk to Santa Claus. My instinct was to run a mile but both kids seemed to enjoy sitting on his lap and telling him what they wanted (even though both had declared separately- he's not the real SC).
Today was a bit up and down but there were some lovely highpoints- Chloe washing up, me drying and James cutting up apples and playing with the turkey baster and water. We went bike riding in the crisp, cool sunny afternoon and then made some kit models. Unfortunately, the day was way less fun for Neil he has some kind of stomach bug and has spent much time in the bathroom and bed.
